“The window was open, because the Bears, like the good, tidy bears that they were, always opened their bedchamber window when they got up in the morning. Out Goldilocks jumped, and ran through the woods as fast as she could run – never looking behind her; and what happened to her afterward I cannot tell you. But the Three Bears never saw anything more of her again.”
After eating their food, wrecking the chairs and sleeping in the bed? Not a thank you?
Our porcupine guest eats the shrubery, destroyed the apple trees and sleeps under the shed. And what do we get for thanks? Just ask Mulder that question. Then again, better not, the dog now pretends he’s deaf and blind when they are present. Your inquiries may be a source of embarrassment.
I wouldn’t mind if our Erethizon dorsatum were to take a hike, but he is still fascinating to watch. This one was in the willow tree on The Knob. The strange trail from his winter den in the ditch gave his location away. His broad shape must help him float about the feet of snow cover. He didn’t much like me watching either. It seemed to put him off his dinner.
We have a pretty ugly possum visiting regularly. In fact he was even living under the deck until it got screened off. I think the cat tolerates him.
So Goldilocks ate their food, wrecked their house, and hopped up and ran off never to be heard from again? I think I might have dated her once . . . .
and what happened to her afterward I cannot tell you
Goldilocks – ungrateful wretch
Erethizon – let’s call him Zonny for short – unwelcome guest
– altho I do see his allure
And I thought George was the only prickly inhabitant of the compound.
