This is what I was hoping to catch. This is further up the same trail, not far from top of The Scar. From the many tracks crossing the Scar it is a popular crossing from the cranky hunter neighbour to the north. Still, the camera was up there for three days and this was the only set of pics in that time. The deer numbers are well down after last winters tough, tough...

Christmas present from the Scourge this year was a Hunting Cam. Runs on battery power, stores images to an SD card, and has a motion detector. I bring my iPad on my walk, transfer the photos, and get it set up again in no time.
I have it set up on a fence post down by the T-Insersection (Low Meadow area). A veritable highway of tracks, I figured there should be something interesting on whcih to spy. These...

When it’s minus freaking awful and you can’t go to Florida, go to the Muttart. Four pyramids, each a different climate. Gods bless the humid tropical zone. I could stay there forever. But as George prophesizes wherever we go “there’s always a crying...

George has returned from Ontario, and as usual brings prezzies from the used book stores. Three Jane Austen books! Not the novels, but critiques, essays and the like. These three are all inscribed with the name Dorothy Burwash. One says “New York March 1948″, the second “London 1964″, and the last “Washington, May 1968″. I don’t know if this is where Dorothy lived at the...

I was cleaning up some photo files and came across a shot of the “pond” in the fall of 2009. I was shocked and could hardly remember how bad it was at its worst. So in Monday’s 7th inning stretch I went around and took a current photo. Let’s compare the two.
The first photo was with George’s wide angle lens so mine isn’t a perfect comparison, but you get the picture. We believe...

Yankees vs Tigers for first round of American League Division Series. There will be fisticuffs at the Compound come Friday. Mr. Brown is cocksure that i’ll be mopey for the rest of the playoffs once his team is through with mine. We’ll see about that.
Go Tigers!

I can’t lose such a beautiful morning, no matter how far behind I am with the website deadline. I would have too many November regrets. Levi and I went down to the ponds edge and had a drink. His was questionable pond water, mine was coffee.
Ducks, sparrows, squirrels. Mulder felt left out and tried to come down too but its a pretty rough slope. His back legs don’t always work in concert with his front...

Hard frost this morning, thick on the roof and crunchy on the lawn. It took out another pumpkin plant. We finished the last of the sweet corn yesterday so no loss there. The flowers held their own.
The fog over the pond was gorgeous, and another photo as the sun cleared the trees. It’s unusual that the pond is both still and clear, the duck weed all at the east end. Reflections are a rare but welcome...

You can’t take the flower arrangement indoors until all the critters have vacated. Most every gladiolus bloom was a bed for a bee this cool September morning. They are quite dozy if disturbed. Today should be toasty and I’m sure he’ll be on his way and busy...
