Dog Tired

There was a brief period of good skiing conditions before all the good snow was turned to mush by our unseasonably warm weather. Unfortunately it was so brief, it ended before I went out on Saturday and Sunday. I had good intentions to complete the loop, but there’s more to do this year than last – what with The Scar and the new fence lines.

George kept the dog inside for the first day, but I thought I had enough of a headstart on Mulder to discourage him from accompanying me on the following.
I was at the very back fence when I looked back along my path to see him flailing and floundering through the deep deep snow. Flailing and floundering is NOT good for ski trails. The human visitors to the Compound know how cross I get when they walk on my path, so you can imagine how much I barked at the dog to “go home! Bad dog!”
He made it home – eventually – maybe as much as an hour after I did. He’s not the smartest dog – I’m sure he went the long way around. Which means, of course, that he ruined the entire trail that I had put down. He was so weighed down by clinging, wet snowballs that he was almost stuck though the dog door. Exhausted and shivering, he slept, under a blanket, the rest of the day.
He’s too old for this!

Eddie used to get big snowballs stuck on him, and I was too dumb in the early days to think of melting them by putting him in the sink and running warm water. He used to look pretty funny after I snipped all the snowballs off. duh.
