Well of course it is raining…

The peonies are in full bloom. Heavy rain and blooming peonies naturally go together. Like Godzilla and Tokyo. We won’t say a word against the rain however. It can take down two dozen blooming shrubs if it just fills up the pond again.

Secret Identity

I’m driving home from work yesterday on Hwy2 when I’m passed by a white van. Not surprising. While I don’t drive as slowly as Sue, I’m no speed demon. But the logo on the side of the vehicle caught my eye. Hey! I made that logo! I haven’t seen their van before. I didn’t even know if they were still in business. Good to...

We didn’t start the fire…

It is within a week of that day eleven years ago when the Scourge and George celebrated his birthday with the grass fire that opened up our backyard. So when George was driving home last night and saw plumes of smoke in our general direction, he called from his cell phone and asked “Is the Scourge back from Toronto?” From the deck off the...

Two man job? Hah!

A smart person can replace the other ‘man’ with five chairs, six lengths of twine and a seven foot poplar branch. Plus they don’t complain or disagree or point out when you install something backwards…again. Skydome – Timelapse from JAMcRae on...

Wake up little rosebud

Time to get things moving again. That’s what the snow geese tell us. They are still making their way north. Traffic overhead for hours each day. George hired a tree mover to take care of a few evergreens that would be better situated elsewhere. The knob was a little crowded in spots, so two of the trees we planted some ten or eleven years ago were...

Snow Geese reminder

We heard the snow geese flying over head today. They return in swirling, squawking flocks. That’s the signal to clean out the shed. They don’t touch down, but they bring us messages just the same.

Mr. Brown buys a BBQ

(and JA assembles it) This thing is enormous. It has the side burner extension and rotisserie and a 2nd cooking rack and…It’s natural gas, so we’ll have to figure out where to put it and how to get it connected.  We did plan for this when the house was put together, so an extension of the gas line does reach this back corner. But I...

Spring on the Pond

Four fat geese, and two ducks. It’s definitely spring when the ducks arrive. I hope they enjoy the curling rocks that we left out on the ice (and the shovels, and the scoreboard, and the corner posts…) Every year. When will we ever learn.

For Snookie

Snookie asked if a pdf could be stored and downloaded on a wordpress blog. I knew it could, but wanted to test the steps. There’s a Media menu in the admin section. ‘Add new’ to upload a file. Or if you have FTP log in to your website folder you could upload directly to there without entering WordPress. Embedding the link is available when you create your post entry and just as easy to do no matter...

Day 2/3 at the compound (Sue)

Day 2/3 at the compound Sue’s notes. On Friday morning  as I suited up to go feed the horses, I noticed they were dancing about the corral and kicking up their heels a little different from the other days, when they stand staring at the house to see if there’s any human movement. When I went out it seemed a bit cool, but not as cold as Thursday, when it was snowy and windy. The horses were happy to...
